Cheep, cheep!

Today DS and I picked up the newest members of our flock. We have three buff Orpington pullets cheeping their way through their first day. As usual, however the temperature was down to 25° this morning. It seems that every time we have new chicks, no matter how late we wait, the temperature always gets too cold for them. Our fluffy balls of yellow down are in their tub in the garage under a heat lamp. These pictures were under a white light but we have since put the red heat lamp over them.

Where are we?

Where are we?

This food looks really good!

I’m really hoping that one of these will eventually choose to sit on eggs and hatch a batch or two. Raising baby chicks is labor intensive and as hard as we try, I’m sure we don’t do as well as Mama Hen.
