The weather has decided to take a turn for much colder temperatures. This morning we woke up to 29° and a cool house. It was cooler than we liked so the heater was run for the first time this fall. It didn’t stay on too long as we never run it really warm. Just wanted to take the edge off. It will most likely get even colder tonight as the temperature at 8:30 PM tonight was already down to 36°. With our first good hard freeze, I can now start counting the seven days to being able to pick the rosehips for using to make rosehip jelly. So next Monday, I should be busy with that project.
In sad news, GPID had to put down his cat today. Buffy had been in a fight with another cat last week and the tear to his ear and face became infected. It was not getting better, so before it spread to his brain, GPID put him to sleep. This was particularly hard as this cat was his wife’s who passed away 4 1/2 years ago. Tears were shed all around as Buffy was buried in a special spot in the back yard. He came to them in the fall of 1998 and has used up lots of his lives. In human years, he would have been a very old man.
DH celebrated his 53rd birthday Saturday night and yesterday. He chose red velvet cake from scratch, homemade pizza, salad, and Death by Chocolate flavored ice cream. We celebrated with his family Saturday night and then yesterday he took it easy. Unfortunately this past weekend was busy with lots of other activities and DH did not get much rest. I wondered if he was more than ready to go back to work to get back to his schedule.
My father is 2/3 of the way through his cancer treatments. So far he is hanging in there, but that is only because of the prayers from family and friends on his behalf. We are hoping that he continues to be strong through this. Mom is tired, but doing all she can to learn how to care for Dad.
DD and DS are busy with school, work, chores, and play. We are all looking forward to the brief break at Thanksgiving. Since I will have to work a 4-hour shift on Christmas, I will enjoy time with my family on Thanksgiving.
The apples still aren’t ready. The last of the tomatoes are almost ready to juice and can. I still need to bake and process the pumpkins for freezing. Now that we are seeing much cooler temperatures, I will probably get busy on that project. Today I had to set things aside to help DS resolve a problem with an Algebra 2 test and to bake some bread. I pulled the last regular loaf out of the freezer so it’s off to make more loaves. There is now a potato loaf and an oatmeal loaf in the freezer. Two more will hopefully join those tomorrow.
Thank you to all my faithful readers. Hopefully I will have some knitting and other projects to show you soon.
